It looks like another big snow storm headed our way tonight. I've had to have limited hours and even some closures several times this winter, which I hate to do. It's bad patient care and bad for business, but sometimes my staff can't make it in and it is hard to run everything by myself. My 4 wheel drive and close proximity to the office make it pretty easy for me to be there whenever needed. But answering the phones, checking in patients, doing visits and giving shots is a little too much for me, so I usually just do sick visits when I'm there alone.
Since Anna, our nurse practitioner, has been seeing patients on her own, we have been open every Saturday. I'm not sure if this will continue in the summer. It depends on how busy Saturdays are. I could do more well checks Saturdays as the sick visits slow down in the spring and summer. I am currently taking a day or day and a half off during the week since I work most Saturdays. Anna is doing a great job seeing people independently and getting to know many of our patients. She can always contact me when she is seeing patients alone, if complicated cases come up.
In January we hired an intermediate paramedic, Stephen, who is working part time doing nursing duties during Tina's time off. He has lots of experience with kids and he is fitting right in in our Kids First family!
As always, we want to be a patient centered, medical home. We want you to feel free to call or email us (use the patient portal for emailing) with your questions or issues. Our utmost goals are to help our patients maintain or attain amazing health, be up to date on all preventive care recommendations and avoid urgent care and ER visits. Rarely, they can't be avoided. But you can always check with us first to see if we can get you in asap or if you can manage things at home.
Please "like" Kids First Pediatrics of Stafford on Facebook. I post lots of medical news and things that I find interesting and informative (and hope you will too). General questions or suggestions for topics can be posted there too, but NO personal medical information should ever be posted there. Use the patient portal for that. If you don't have your log in information for the portal, let us know.
Thanks for reading and stay healthy!!!
